So I was first introduced to oils when my friend who is not-at-all-a-hippy (unlike myself) all of a sudden became obsessed. She took me to a class where I received some information, thieves cleaning spray, and lemon sugar scrub.
So at the time I'm living with three men who don't know what cleaning is. I'm going through bleach like crazy (I hate bleach, but it was the ONLY thing that worked). So I try this cleaning spray. My mind became blown. It worked. So this is when I thought, "Okay. What else can these oils do?"
Now I want to add here: No Young Living sales person pestered me to buy their oils. They only ever told me their personal stories and information. They never asked me to sell oils. They never tried to force it on me. Most companies who do sales like Young Living does use this kind of behavior. Young Living does not. I never felt pressured at all and I was given my own time to research on my own.
So anyway, this is when I started looking up things. I'm from the Cleveland area and I found out that the Cleveland Clinic, one of the best hospitals in the country, uses oils alongside regular medical treatment. Then I looked up actual studies. This study found that many essential oils do possess antibacterial properties. In addition I could physically see how well the tummy tuck cream (made of essential oils), the lemon sugar scrub, and how the hair growth treatment (a drop of rosemary in shampoo and a drop of lavender in conditioner) was working on people I knew. So I made an educated decision.
Now why did I decide to go with Young Living? Young Living has a Seed to Seal program which means they farm all the plants that go into their oils making sure that pesticides/weed-killers are not used. They ensure the oils are distilled once (more than one distilling lessens the quality of the oils). Then they check the oils in house. Not only that but they also have a third party check the oils. This last part is important. You would not want to buy from a place that doesn't have enough faith in their oils to let another company verify their quality. I use my oils topically and internally. I also have health problems. Due to those reasons I want to make sure I am getting the purist oils possible and I do not want to risk my oils having fillers in them. There are multiple types of oils and Young Livings are therapeutic grade. While you may see oils in a health food store for cheaper, you can not guarantee that they are as good. As oils are not regulated by the FDA people can put anything in them.
I decided to start with the premium starter kit. With the kit you spend $150 but you get a lot for that money. You get a diffuser that costs $80 at the retail price. You get multiple oils that on their own go for at least $40 (as they are the smaller version of $40 oils.) The starter kit comes with eleven oils, plus samples, plus two of their energy drinks. For someone who is just testing the waters it is a great kit because some oils work for some people, while others are not as effective. For example, Valor doesn't work very well on me, but Valor works phenomenally on my dog (yes, my dog) and my god-son.
If you want to just try an oil or two you can sign up as a retail member, try a few oils at retail price, and then if you like them buy a kit.
