Thieves

My favorite oil and the first oil I was introduced to was Thieves.  Thieves got its name from an interesting story: There were these thieves who were looting the bodies of those who were sick and dead from the plague.  In order to avoid from getting sick, being in the spice trade, they made an oil to help prevent themselves from catching it.  Well, the king was not too happy about this, but the police also didn't want to touch the thieves afraid of catching the plague off of them since they did not know why they were immune.  Eventually the thieves were caught and the king gave them a choice: either be burned at the stake or tell the king the secret for remaining immune and have a more "humane" death through hanging.  They chose hanging.

Thieves is comprised of clove, lemon, eucalyptus radiata, cinnamon, and rosemary.  It is great to use with the diffuser or topically, especially when you have a family bug going around.   Thieves also works great as a cleaning solution.  I used to have to use bleach whenever I would clean my old apartment because I lived with three men--it got messy fast--and the only thing that would cut through the cooked on food/mess/etc. was bleach.  I was absolutely shocked when thieves worked and it was a big part of my buying a kit.  My recipe for thieves cleaner is this (Mine is a little strong, but I use it everywhere, carpets, bathroom, kitchen, etc):

Thieves Cleaner

  • one 20 oz spray bottle (adjust recipe depending on size of bottle)
  • Thieves essential oil
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Cleaning Vinegar
Fill bottle 3/4 full with water, filling the rest of the way with cleaning vinegar. Make sure you leave enough room in the top to shake the bottle.  Add 10-15 drops thieves and 10-15 drops peppermint, depending on how strong you want it.  Shake bottle.  Make sure you shake prior to every use as layers will separate.

Thieves comes in the premium starter kit.  It was one of the oils that lasted longest for me because I only used it to clean (luckily I did not get sick in that time.)  The cleaning solution goes very, very far so it is really worth it to make.  Thieves also is not that expensive to buy in a 15ml bottle.  Either way it is worth it.  If you are interested in checking out Thieves you can here.  Keep in mind--as a retail customer you are not committing to buy anything, just checking out the catalogue! I know that can be confusing.
